Highlands + G's 6th birthday

We had a fun day celebrating Grayson on his 6th birthday. It was great that it fell on a Saturday, and since he wanted a party in Durham this year, we decided to have a family adventure day on his actual birthday. He's always asking to go to the mountains, so we planned to go to Highlands. We sent him on a scavenger hunt (he loves stuff like this!) around the house to find tickets to use during the day on our adventure trip... and Bowen got a bag too :)
After breakfast, we hit the road. We enjoyed walking around downtown, hot chocolate, walking in and out of stores, window shopping, lunch at our favorite little local grocery, a beautiful overlook, waterfall, and a beautiful drive.

We are thankful for 6 years of Grayson's life!

Highlands

We spent the day on Friday in Highlands. We love being able to escape to the mountains for even just a few hours! Highlands is great for the age of our kiddos. An easy hike to a waterfall and mountain overlooks all within minutes of downtown is a win for us!

Loved being there with all the Christmas decorations!
peppermint lattes and donuts for a treat!

Highlands

We escaped to Highlands for the day on Friday and enjoyed a day full of quality time, exploring outside and walking around another little town. I think Dry Falls was probably the highlight for the boys as they love anything outside. And Grayson thought it was so cool to go under a waterfall. Here's some pictures from our day.

Highlands

We headed to explore the little town of Highlands on Saturday. There are a good number of places within an hour to an hour and a half of Clemson and we are trying to take advantage of these fun day trips while we are here. I especially love that there are several little mountain towns not too far away. Chad and I love, love, love time in the mountains.
We visited Dry Falls. I have always loved the way water freezes like this. It was beautiful! I probably enjoyed seeing it like this more than in the summer.
The lakes were also all frozen. They were so pretty! It was about 50 degrees, so we got to enjoy all of the snow and winter-ness without the cold.
We realized Highlands was the midway point for us and the Shulers. We were thrilled to find a day where we could both make the drive to spend some time together. We got to hang out at a coffee shop downtown (Grayson and Jennifer bonded over her hot chocolate) and eat dinner together. We love this couple and their heart for the Lord... and we can't wait for baby Shuler to arrive this summer!
Grayson did not know what to think of Rance's beard.
Anyone else ever been to (or heard of) Highlands?
