sick days and snow days

That about sums up our first half of January! We were sick for almost the first three weeks of the year. boo. There really was only one morning of snow, but there were many COLD days. Too cold to go outside and everything was iced over. So it kind of made it easy to quarantine ourselves and stay home.

All three boys and I got a cold and it manifested itself differently each day and in different people for almost three weeks. I don't know how Chad managed to escape it, but I'm thankful he did. Bad coughs, fevers, stuffy and runny noses, an ear infection for G, strep throat for the baby, and a sinus infection for me... three antibiotics, many kleenex boxes, multiple dr visits and lots of temps taken later, we are all healthy.  Praise Him!

We've been in pj's alot, spent much time at home, and even though we like to be busy, I think we've all enjoyed the slow pace recently.
(also top right, I'll miss the days when ordering them their own cup of water in the drive thru is exciting to them :) I was trying to pump their feverish bodies full of fluids)

We tried some new recipes, played lots of games, read lots of books, built cool forts, watched way more shows than normal, and wore pjs all day long.
There was a warmer day somewhere in there and we broke out of the house and went to the frozen lake. It's always good to breathe in some fresh air!
And then we had a snow day (the boys were all healthy by this point)! I don't think they were expecting us to get much, so enough to play in was a fun thing to wake up to! Chad still went to work, so it was just me and the boys to play in the snow.
snow cream and hot chocolate after playing in the snow
and when they didn't want to play outside, we brought snow inside to play with... I don't understand why this is so entertaining, but they loved stirring, scooping and "cooking" with it
and when we went for followup checkups and got clear reports, we celebrated!

snow day in December!

It is rare for us to get snow in December here. So this was a fun little surprise. And the best kind of snow... it was pretty to watch fall and play in for the morning, and mostly gone by the afternoon!

snow day!

We had a fun snow day on Saturday. It doesn't take much snow around here for us to get excited. We were pleased to wake up Saturday morning to the ground covered and enough to play in.

Here's a bunch of pictures from our day... because hey, we usually only have 1 or 2 snow days a year!
This is definitely the most fun we have had with the boys in the snow. We stayed outside for about 3 hours and the boys never complained about being cold (and my feet were freezing!)
Chad built 3 snowmen and all of them were "tackled", I managed to get a picture with this one before he got taken out.
this didn't work well...
Our boys love Tripp!
S'mores right before lunch, why not?
The boys and I eat a lot of soup and grilled cheese for lunch when there is colder weather.
 after some long afternoon naps!
 muffins and hot chocolate snack
a little more sledding in the backyard. G really enjoyed this and jumped on the sled over and over. It was fun watching him.
and we ended the day with a pizza party and working on the new small groups sign up at the church with the Henschens.

snow days

The anticipation of snow is so much fun! Especially the first snow of the season. It rained most of the day on Friday and then turned to snow in the evening. In my opinion, this was the perfect kind of snow... enough to play in, but gone quickly and caused no traveling problems. We did lots of different stuff around the house on Friday as we were waiting for the snow and avoiding the rain :)

I like having these muffins in my freezer. The boys eat them up and it gives me something easy to pull out for breakfasts and snacks.
We saw a few flakes late afternoon and G wanted to go outside and play. Not much to play in, but still exciting to see.
Most of the snow fell while we slept, and we woke up to this! so fun!
We thought Bowen would hate it, but he didn't complain once!
Bowen just wanted to eat/lick it. He would fall over and just put his face down with his tongue out. We were cracking up.
 This didn't work...
 neither did this...
We went over to the Dentons for sledding and snow cream. Tara took this picture of the boys enjoying their snow cream...

The explosion of wet clothes!
