a day in the life // 6

It's time for another day in the life!

This is Tuesday, August 15. A pretty typical Tuesday for us. It's also a day where we had no agenda or plans and played at home most of the day. I know I'll miss these days as the boys get older. Even with no real "plans", these days feel very full!

{Grayson at 4.5, Bowen at 2.5, Miller at 3.5 months}

Just a warning, this is lonnnnggggggg :) And as always, here are a bunch of selfies and dorky pictures!

Chad got up at 5:20 and left the house by 5:45 am. He has men's prayer at 6:00 each Tuesday. I don't even hear him leave most mornings. I got up at 6:45 and jumped in the shower knowing the boys would be up soon. I'm not good about getting up before the boys most mornings (I want to be better!), but on Tuesdays, with Chad being gone, I try to be showered before they get up.

Miller was awake when I got out. He had gone to bed really early the night before and so he was ready to go. Is that face not the sweetest way to start the day!? I fed him and put him in our bed.
The boys green light came on at 7:15 and they came to our room and jumped in the bed with Miller.
This day was supposed to be about 90 degrees (and so humid) so I tried to get us outside early because it's not so fun to be out later. Breakfast on the patio at 7:45.
my sweet little breakfast buddy
the boys (Grayson, and so therefore Bowen) want to get dressed the minute they get up. My current rule is "you have to wait until after breakfast", so as soon as they finished eating they ran back to change clothes.  I've tried to convince them how great it is to just stay in pajamas...
Around 8:15 we were reading on the couch
Miller was ready to go back down around 8:40.
The boys played while I took the trash out, picked up some things, cleaned up the dishes and finished getting ready
We facetimed with my parents, all had some reading time on the couch, cleaned up a potty accident, folded laundry, and then around 10:00 we made a cake.
Not sure how they ended up on the floor under my feet, but they were laughing and laughing about me pretending to step on them.
Miller woke up around 10:30 (all wet) and I got him cleaned up, fed and dressed.
the boys made me a snack and brought it back to me while I was getting Miller ready...
11:00- silly self timer shot of us getting out the door. We didn't have any real plans, but like to get out of the house and find something to do or someone to see :)
We picked up a free CFA watermelon mint lemonade using a coupon that was about to expire. Then we stopped by the office to see Chad since we hadn't seen him that morning.
and then quickly ran in the grocery store to grab two things
I put Miller back down as soon as we got home and then made lunch. We ate lunch at 12:30.
I read two books to the boys and put them down for nap/rest time at 1:30. I sat down to work on Crosspoint's kids worship plans for the next month.
Miller woke up about 20 minutes after the big boys went down. He went through a few days where he wasn't taking his normal, long naps.
Even with short naps, he's still the happiest baby!
I fed him and he played on the play mat next to me.
Grayson's 1 hour "rest timer" went off and he's allowed to get off his bed and play in his room. He's lately requested to take care of Miller if Miller is awake. I got the lessons finished, laundry started (remember there have already been 2 accidents?!) and did a few other things before they were all up/out of their rooms.
At 3:30 Bowen was up and I put Miller back down for a nap and we made chocolate frosting for the cake.
The boys iced a muffin for their snack :)
Chad gets home earlier than normal on Tuesdays since he goes in early, and we prepped dinner at 4:00 while the boys played. We doubled it to make an extra pan.
Chad worked out, Miller woke up (another short nap), we all played for a bit, cleaned up a diaper blowout.
my baby boycotting napping
We ate dinner at 6:00
at 6:30, Grayson, Bowen and I walked dinner over to a neighbor/friend who recently had a baby.
6:50- fed Miller, and we got all the boys ready for bed and went ahead and read, prayed and sang together
7:20- I headed out to meet friends, and I left Chad to get the boys in bed. This is what was going on as I left :) but he put them down shortly after.
7:30- met these ladies for coffee at All In to talk about our upcoming preschool year (and we decided we should sneak out after dinner more often)
got home at 10:00 and Chad and I talked for a few minutes and headed to bed!
and that's a current day in the life!

a day in the life // 5

I don't know why I don't think to do these posts more often. As I went back and read the couple of other ones that I have done, I was amazed at how some things have changed in our routine... and how others have stayed consistent over the years. In these days with little children, they change so quickly, but day-to-day I'm so unaware of it.

I'm feeling very aware that our normal is about to change when we add a newborn. It's not going to be as easy to hop in and out of the car/house and our routine with a new baby won't be as predictable... so I'm trying to soak it up and enjoy it!

I say it often, but I just love these days. SO much. They are so exhausting and can be hard, but they are just my favorite. We have so. much. fun.

So this was our Wednesday, February 1. It was also a 70 degree, beautiful day (this has been the mildest winter!). The boys ages 4 and a quarter, just turned 2... and almost 30 weeks pregnant with boy #3 :)

I'm also aware this may be quite boring and long to you, but I enjoy having it to look back on

-----

Chad and I got up at 6:15. He headed to the living room to read and I hopped in the shower.

Around 6:50 Bowen woke up yelling "mama! dada! poop!" He's not a fan of the lights in the morning and lately covers his face with his blanket once we lay him down to change his diaper (he also didn't have poop, but has learned what gets him out of bed... little stinker).
7:00 Grayson's green light alarm clock came on and he wandered down the hall and found Bowen on the couch and snuggled up with him
Around 7:20 we sat down at the table to eat breakfast and G commented how beautiful the sunrise was
We currently eat eggs every morning.
We work through these questions with the boys over breakfast.
After breakfast we have recently started having "reading time". Chad and I are studying 1 Peter together and the boys have to do a quiet activity or look at books in the floor. It's only about 15 minutes, but it's been good to build in to our morning routine.
Around 8 we granted G's request to play Chutes and Ladders- he's asked to play this one a lot lately. And then we played and hung out a bit before getting dressed.
Around 8:30- I got the boys and I dressed and ready for the day... and we told Daddy goodbye and sent him off to work.
And at 8:45 we were loaded up and headed to the grocery store... or as G says "off on an adventure!"
We had people coming for dinner and I needed to grab a few things for that and decided it was probably better to go early rather than squeeze it into our day later... we don't typically grocery shop at 8:45am... but there was nobody there and the boys were very well-behaved, so maybe I should make it an earlier thing :)
 The cutest little shopping buddies...
I dropped the groceries off at home and we picked up Olivia at 9:45
We headed to Abernathy and the park while Olivia and I talked and played with the boys. I'm thankful for weekly time with her and the accountability she provides in my life.
At 11:00 we dropped Olivia off at class and ran by the house to pack a picnic lunch. The boys played outside while I packed up our lunch. It was a beautiful day!
Around 11:45 we went to the Dentons house to eat lunch and play for just a bit.
So thankful for Tara's friendship! It's been such a gift in this season of beginning motherhood!
At 1:30 we sat down to read a few books before nap time.
and they were out pretty quickly after I put them down at 1:45
I sat down for a bit (I'm so ready to just SIT by nap time these days! My belly is feeling heavier and heavier.) I rested, read a little bit, ate some chocolate, looked at instagram, read some blogs and enjoyed the quiet. Then I put away and washed some dishes and did a few other things around the house.
At 3:45, Lydia arrived (she's been coming some as a "mothers helper"... learning/practicing caring for younger ones, while in a supervised setting. Liz approached me about this, and I love the idea!). The boys LOVE Lydia being here and are so entertained by her... and she's so sweet to them! Right as she arrived, Bowen woke up and she read to Bowen and played with him while I started prepping some dinner stuff.

At 4:15 I woke Grayson up and Lydia took them outside to play. They played outside for about an hour while I prepped dinner stuff and baked some muffins for snacks/breakfast. The right picture is my view from the kitchen window.
Chad got home around 5:15 and prepped the chicken for dinner while we talked. Meal prep usually isn't the two of us in the kitchen with no little boys running around :) Lydia left around 5:45 and we got final things ready for dinner and picked up a little bit.
The boys went outside with Chad to grill the chicken.
Bowen did not want to come in and sat playing with leaves and putting them in his dump truck until our friends arrived and I bribed him in with food. It was getting dark!
Our Turkish friends, Emrah and Nese, joined us for dinner on this night. We sat down to eat at 6:15.
Grayson talked them into staying for family game night after dinner :)
After Emrah and Nese left, I threw the boys in the tub while Chad cleaned up the kitchen.
We've started doing a game and dance party every night during the bedtime routine. I think this has become one of G's favorite parts of each day. The current song of choice is Justin Timberlakes "Can't Stop the Feeling".  We started the dance party at 7:50.
8:00- Read, pray and sing with the boys and they hopped in bed.
At 8:15- I caught up with Ashley (long overdue!) for a bit while Chad read some. At 9, after hanging up with Ashley, I checked on the boys and found Bowen stripped of his clothes (a recent thing he does before falling asleep). I managed to get his pjs back on him without it bothering him. Chad and I hung out for a bit and by 9:40, that picture on the right was my view :)
We got in bed at 9:45 and were both asleep by 10.

And that's a current day in the life :) I'm impressed if you made it to the end!
