a day in the life // 5

I don't know why I don't think to do these posts more often. As I went back and read the couple of other ones that I have done, I was amazed at how some things have changed in our routine... and how others have stayed consistent over the years. In these days with little children, they change so quickly, but day-to-day I'm so unaware of it.

I'm feeling very aware that our normal is about to change when we add a newborn. It's not going to be as easy to hop in and out of the car/house and our routine with a new baby won't be as predictable... so I'm trying to soak it up and enjoy it!

I say it often, but I just love these days. SO much. They are so exhausting and can be hard, but they are just my favorite. We have so. much. fun.

So this was our Wednesday, February 1. It was also a 70 degree, beautiful day (this has been the mildest winter!). The boys ages 4 and a quarter, just turned 2... and almost 30 weeks pregnant with boy #3 :)

I'm also aware this may be quite boring and long to you, but I enjoy having it to look back on

-----

Chad and I got up at 6:15. He headed to the living room to read and I hopped in the shower.

Around 6:50 Bowen woke up yelling "mama! dada! poop!" He's not a fan of the lights in the morning and lately covers his face with his blanket once we lay him down to change his diaper (he also didn't have poop, but has learned what gets him out of bed... little stinker).
7:00 Grayson's green light alarm clock came on and he wandered down the hall and found Bowen on the couch and snuggled up with him
Around 7:20 we sat down at the table to eat breakfast and G commented how beautiful the sunrise was
We currently eat eggs every morning.
We work through these questions with the boys over breakfast.
After breakfast we have recently started having "reading time". Chad and I are studying 1 Peter together and the boys have to do a quiet activity or look at books in the floor. It's only about 15 minutes, but it's been good to build in to our morning routine.
Around 8 we granted G's request to play Chutes and Ladders- he's asked to play this one a lot lately. And then we played and hung out a bit before getting dressed.
Around 8:30- I got the boys and I dressed and ready for the day... and we told Daddy goodbye and sent him off to work.
And at 8:45 we were loaded up and headed to the grocery store... or as G says "off on an adventure!"
We had people coming for dinner and I needed to grab a few things for that and decided it was probably better to go early rather than squeeze it into our day later... we don't typically grocery shop at 8:45am... but there was nobody there and the boys were very well-behaved, so maybe I should make it an earlier thing :)
 The cutest little shopping buddies...
I dropped the groceries off at home and we picked up Olivia at 9:45
We headed to Abernathy and the park while Olivia and I talked and played with the boys. I'm thankful for weekly time with her and the accountability she provides in my life.
At 11:00 we dropped Olivia off at class and ran by the house to pack a picnic lunch. The boys played outside while I packed up our lunch. It was a beautiful day!
Around 11:45 we went to the Dentons house to eat lunch and play for just a bit.
So thankful for Tara's friendship! It's been such a gift in this season of beginning motherhood!
At 1:30 we sat down to read a few books before nap time.
and they were out pretty quickly after I put them down at 1:45
I sat down for a bit (I'm so ready to just SIT by nap time these days! My belly is feeling heavier and heavier.) I rested, read a little bit, ate some chocolate, looked at instagram, read some blogs and enjoyed the quiet. Then I put away and washed some dishes and did a few other things around the house.
At 3:45, Lydia arrived (she's been coming some as a "mothers helper"... learning/practicing caring for younger ones, while in a supervised setting. Liz approached me about this, and I love the idea!). The boys LOVE Lydia being here and are so entertained by her... and she's so sweet to them! Right as she arrived, Bowen woke up and she read to Bowen and played with him while I started prepping some dinner stuff.

At 4:15 I woke Grayson up and Lydia took them outside to play. They played outside for about an hour while I prepped dinner stuff and baked some muffins for snacks/breakfast. The right picture is my view from the kitchen window.
Chad got home around 5:15 and prepped the chicken for dinner while we talked. Meal prep usually isn't the two of us in the kitchen with no little boys running around :) Lydia left around 5:45 and we got final things ready for dinner and picked up a little bit.
The boys went outside with Chad to grill the chicken.
Bowen did not want to come in and sat playing with leaves and putting them in his dump truck until our friends arrived and I bribed him in with food. It was getting dark!
Our Turkish friends, Emrah and Nese, joined us for dinner on this night. We sat down to eat at 6:15.
Grayson talked them into staying for family game night after dinner :)
After Emrah and Nese left, I threw the boys in the tub while Chad cleaned up the kitchen.
We've started doing a game and dance party every night during the bedtime routine. I think this has become one of G's favorite parts of each day. The current song of choice is Justin Timberlakes "Can't Stop the Feeling".  We started the dance party at 7:50.
8:00- Read, pray and sing with the boys and they hopped in bed.
At 8:15- I caught up with Ashley (long overdue!) for a bit while Chad read some. At 9, after hanging up with Ashley, I checked on the boys and found Bowen stripped of his clothes (a recent thing he does before falling asleep). I managed to get his pjs back on him without it bothering him. Chad and I hung out for a bit and by 9:40, that picture on the right was my view :)
We got in bed at 9:45 and were both asleep by 10.

And that's a current day in the life :) I'm impressed if you made it to the end!
