I come from a family of very athletic and disciplined people. In the area of working out/ sports I am quite the opposite of them. My Mom runs 3-4 miles every day and has for years and years. My Dad is very athletic and enjoys exercising. My brothers both played high school sports (soccer, swimming, cross country...) and are very active. I just somehow missed that athletic gene. Although I enjoy being active, I'm just not coordinated or athletic and have never been on a consistent working out schedule. Like seriously, running for 1 minute wore me out. I know... sad.
A couple months ago I began to see and hear about a running program called Couch to 5K. It interested me because I felt "couch" definitely described where I was. I (and my sweet husband who is doing it along with me) have been following the running/jogging schedule for about 6 weeks now. This is the longest I have ever stuck with anything. The best thing about it is that I am enjoying it. I never thought I would enjoy running. It is only 20-30 minutes, 3 days a week so it is not overly ambitious.
You may laugh at my running schedule, but I am a very visual person (not sure your learning style? Here is a little quiz to help you out). It helps me to have it posted where I look at it everyday and can mark off what I've accomplished :) It may be the 2nd grade teacher in me.
I would highly recommend this program so far. On Saturday we were on Week 5, Workout 3 which was to run 20 minutes without stopping. I was really nervous about it! BUT I was able to do it and I was very proud of myself :) We will see where this goes, but at least I can run for longer than one minute now...

So I might know where you got the non-athletic gene. No one has EVER described me as athletic (remember I couldn't jump into the rope in Peru) but I do have the discipline down pretty good. I laughed when I saw your chart - very much the teacher in you! And -very much like your mom to mark it all off. But I am so proud of you doing it for your health and sticking with it.
Good for you! LOVE the chart! :)
That is so awesome Christy. I am really proud of you. The chart is so adorable. I may even do it....just so I can make a cute chart like that :)
ok, #1 - You are SUCH a teacher with your cute little chart. But I also LOVE it!
#2 - I beg to differ on your non-athleticism - lest you forget our marathon run to Chad Eva's house ;) The infamous half mile that goes down in the history books.
PS - I took the quiz and I am also very much a visual learner. The description was me to a tee! (Maybe that's why I liked your chart so much ;)
I like your chart too, and yes it is the second grade teacher in you! Once I'm done w/ the couch2.5k too maybe we'll have to go run together!
That's awesome, Christy! I've heard that the Couch to 5K program works really well for a a lot of people! And also, from one non-athletic person to another, running has got to be the easiest and least stressful athletic activity to start with. So great choice! Keep it up! :)
